There is a famous quote:

“Perfume is like a love letter: it should tell a story, without ever saying a word.”

Then why not write your story of love with scents that speak themselves?

Next time, create your perfume on a moderate budget with little effort, passion, and love. Doing so will be a chance to get the recipe of your favorite essence, so fold your sleeves to begin!

Navigating through the Process of Perfume Making

Let’s embark on the journey of creating perfumes, following the steps down:

Step 1: Get a Measuring Scale

In any workplace, you need scales and containers to start making DIY things, Perfume making is no different. The foremost thing is to get your measuring scales as it’s difficult to weigh roughly by drops to tweak into the recreation journey. As a friend, I’d say find your scales from online stores available in mini budgets like  £20 to £40, so don’t waste your hard-earned fortune on expensive ones!

Other tools you need to start and finish perfume-making are Glass spray bottles, choose colored ones for a more appealing look, a glass jar for mixing and blending, a dropper, aluminum foil, or tightly packed jars to preserve your scent for the time it evolves.

Glass bottles and jars can be reused but don’t forget to sterilize them!

Step 2: Make Smart Purchases of Good Quality Ingredients

You can get ingredients from anywhere but I suggest relying on registered companies that have good perfumery products. To have your raw materials, start researching for the highest qualities to source your perfume making ensuring satisfactory results, especially for beginners!

Spoiler alert, keep your ingredients stored well in a cool place so that they retain their natural characteristics.

Prefer going with natural ingredients instead of chemicals or molecules, the list of ingredients you need are Ethanol ALcohol or Vodka for more intense results, Fragrance oils, Essence extracts like vanilla, distilled water, not the regular water to avoid salty impurities, and lastly Glycerine as a fixative.

Step 3: Carefully Formulating The Creativity

This step is the most intense but most creative. Get your briefs ready, I mean ask yourself for fresh or breeze vibes, smoky or woody seductiveness, romantic or spicy captivation…which fragrance is your hero tone, and which undertone player.

Your inspiration will make a dream perfume, so take baby steps considering stories and memories!

Put your formulation of 100 mL volume needs 15-20% fragrance oil, with 80-85 mL of alcohol infusion. The exact aroma of each ingredient is like magic to have an irresistible scent.

Notes in a perfume are very crucial like a brain in your body. Each note fragrance extract must be chosen with soft, light upper notes from citrusy, floral, and spicy families, while middle notes have a more deep sensational connection with you so choose fruity, spicy, or floral odors. Base notes are lingering notes so go for spicy, woody, oriental tones in this layer.

Step 3: Mixing and Blending For Attractive Results

Take a jar, add fragrance oil and extracts in it, mixing them thoroughly before adding alcohol or for 100% results let it mingle for for 24-48 hours. Adding, alcohol afterward, let it mix well for stronger effects. After mixing, get a whiff of fragrance on test stripes instead of sniffing closer to the jar.

Step 4: Evaluate and Dilute To Recreate Concentration

Use your nose to trust your extinct, and smell and if you feel heaviness dilute it with a few drops of water to light the tones, and if it’s lighter you can add a few drops of fragrance oil. The addition is just a simple maths, for 10% dilution, it’s 10mL ingredient + 90mL alcohol = 100mL, in total 5-10 drops of water can dilute the fragrance.

Step 5: Adding Glycerine

Fixative Adding a few drops of glycerine will help you preserve the fragrance because of its fixative qualities. It has high viscosity so will not evaporate with alcohol. Glycerine holds the perfume molecules allowing them to absorb in the skin for an enhanced experience.

Tip For Desired Results

Little extra drops can make a huge difference. Now is the time to cover the jar with aluminum foils tightly, or tightly cover the bottle. Your fancy fragrance will be ready to use after 2-4 weeks.
